How the evidence ladder works
- Exact band: same model family, age band and available mileage band.
- Age only: same model family and age band when the mileage cohort has no usable evidence.
- Model average: the model family across age and mileage bands.
- Dataset reference: 26.9% only when no model cohort is available, labelled as not vehicle-matched.
PostgreSQL and the SQLite fallback use the same sample-size-weighted cohort arithmetic. The report identifies which backing store answered so availability changes cannot masquerade as stronger evidence.

Data methodology: the checked-in primary artifact contains 148,509,908 aggregated DVSA MOT test records and 39,969,903 recorded failures. Cohort rates are sample-size weighted. Unknown or unavailable evidence is labelled and is never converted to zero.

Can AutoSafe guarantee whether my car will pass?
No. The comparison does not inspect the car and cannot determine its next MOT result.
Why can the comparison become less specific?
A narrower cohort is used only when it has usable evidence. Otherwise the report broadens the scope and says so, rather than inventing a precise-looking value.
Why might component and cost sections be absent?
They are withheld when the cohort does not contain complete component evidence. Missing detail is not treated as zero risk.
